Household Insurance PDF Print E-mail

What is household insurance and do you need it? The answer is yes, you do need it, even if you are only renting your house or flat. Without it you risk ending up with nothing if your place gets cleaned out.

The saying goes that a man’s home is his castle but, to a woman, it is her sanctuary and protecting it from unexpected harmful events is paramount. Women’s insurance policies take this into account and believe in protecting the assets that women place the highest value in.

Types of household insurance

As with any insurance there are different household insurance policies to choose from, which cover different aspects of your home. You can get individual insurance policies out for each aspect or combine two or more of them to suit your needs.

Building insurance is that which covers the immovable structures of your property such as walls, roof and swimming pool. Building cover insures you against the damage to the immovable structures from acts of nature, from a burst geyser and from theft. It also covers the charges of a fire brigade call out, temporary accommodation in the event of the building being rendered uninhabitable, as well as liability to other people and much more.

Household contents insurance

Contents insurance covers all the inventoried possessions contained within your home. As in the case of buildings insurance they are covered against theft, damage, power surges and accidental breakages among other things.

Another aspect of household insurance is that of movable or portable goods. Valuable possessions such as clothing, cameras and laptops which, by their nature, are regularly removed from the property are also insured whilst you are out and about. There is also an unspecified portable goods insurance which protects possessions with a lower commercial value but which are, of course, still of great value to their owner. This means you can get on with life without worrying about those all important possessions.
